“Sustainable Building” Sees 200% Increase in Sustainability Assessment Requests During H1 2025
The Sustainable Building Program revealed that the number of sustainability assessment service requests has tripled compared to the past five years, following the launch of the program’s online platform, automation of service procedures, and improved accessibility. The program also developed the Ready-Built Building Inspection Service, enabling developers to request inspections for villa and apartment complexes, specify the number of units per building, and adjust the names and areas of individual units.
In a press statement today, the program reported that six projects received Sustainability Assessment Certificates during the first half of 2025, representing a 200% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Additionally, the number of projects obtaining the Design Compliance Certificate rose by 93%, reaching 29 projects.
Furthermore, 38 new projects registered for sustainability assessment services, including four communities covering a total area exceeding 8 million square meters, while the area of residential and commercial buildings exceeded 700,000 square meters. Through the platform, more than 6,000 reports were issued, including ready-built building inspection reports and building quality reports.
The program also announced, in collaboration with the General Authority for Real Estate, that university students registered with the Saudi Council of Engineers can enroll in training programs offered by the Real Estate Institute. This initiative supports students, enhances their professional readiness, and enables youth to develop their skills and create a “Certified Engineer” account on the Sustainable Building Platform.
Sustainability Assessment is the first Saudi evaluation system developed according to best global practices and aligned with the Saudi Building Code. It enables property owners and developers to measure the sustainability of new and existing buildings and communities through a comprehensive classification system covering both design & construction and operation & maintenance phases. Projects are evaluated based on points achieved from sustainability criteria, classified into five levels, ranging from Green to Diamond.
The sustainability criteria are designed to suit Saudi Arabia’s climate and environmental characteristics, focusing on key areas such as energy, water, health, and quality of life, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
